Project Ara test kits available from Google

Google modular smartphone doing good

Google's modular smartphone, which you might know under its Project Ara name, is definitely getting along really well as Google has announced that test kits are now available for orders and will be shipping this month.

In case you missed it back when it was announced, the Project Ara is Google's modular smartphone which will allow it to be upgraded and modified by simply swapping out parts like the core chipset, memory, camera, sensors, battery and more.

These test kits of Project Ara are not meant for consumers but rather for developers who are prototyping modules for the Project Ara. Google has also recently announced the Project Ara Developer Prize Challenge where it offers a prize of US $100,000 for the best fully working module created by 30th of September.

Google will prioritize request from developers based on technical experience and strength of the module concept and expects to get first kits shipped out before the end of this month.

Google's original plan is to have Project Ara device ready by January next year.
