AMD reports Q2 2014 financial results

With revenue of US $1.44 billion

AMD has revealed its Q2 2014 financial report announcing revenue of US $1.44 billion which is still better than the same quarter last year but lower than earlier quarter.

The main problem for AMD is definitely not its lower revenue but rather debt by which AMD has to pay US $49 million each quarter for it. The total debt by the end of the quarter actually rose to US $2.21 billion, from US $2.14 billion reported at the end of Q1 2014. The operating income (loss) for the Q2 2014 is at US $64 million with net loss of US $36 million, or $0.05 per share.

AMD reported a raise in revenue from Graphics and Visual Solutions segment by 5 percent sequentially and 141 percent year-over-year which can mostly be attributed to semi-custom SoC shipments for consoles. The GPU side of the business reported a slight drop in revenue, mostly due to decrease in AIB channel sales, but was not a big hit since AMD reported increased sales of professional graphics and desktop OEM GPUs.

AMD stock fell by 15 percent in extended trade when the net loss of US $36 million was reported. AMD expects the revenue to rise in the Q3 2014 by 2 percent, plus or minus 3 percent, which would put it somewhere around 1.47 billion while analyst were spot on by expecting AMD revenue to hit US $1.44 billion in Q2 2014 and predict it will rise to US $1.57 billion in the Q3 2014.
