Oculus Rift unveiles a new prototype

Named Crescent Bay

Based on what Oculus VR said, the next Rift version should be the one ready for the market. During the Oculus Connect event, the company showed its latest prototype, called Crescent Bay.


Oculus Connect is the first event, hosted by Oculus VR, to show the work of its developers, and it took place last week in Hollywood. During this event, the firm took the chance to show a great number of features implemented in the VR headset, the Rift, which should have finally reached its latest version, called Crescent Bay, that will be released on the free market.

First of all, the headset features a pair of headphones for a great audio experience, giving an enhanced immersivity. Furthermore, the display features an higher resolution, and more accurate sensors. Also, the head movements should be more precise.

To offer the best audio experience possibile, the firm developed Oculus Audio, that should deliver a great immersivity. The Oculus VR team also released a news demo, designed to show the users what they'll be able to do with the latest version of the famous headset. The most important partners of the firm, Unity and Unreal, were also present with their graphics enigine, to show off the Oculus Rift potential. If everything goes by the plan, this shouldn't be the Developer Kit 3, but it should actually be the first official version, to be released to the public.
