Microsoft gives free OneDrive for Office 365 users

Unlimited cloud storage for free

Microsoft has announced that customers of Office 365 will not get unlimited OneDrive cloud storage for free, including Office 365 Home, Personal and University editions.

According to Microsoft's Chris Jones, corporate vice president of OneDrive & SharePoint, who updated the OneDrive Blog recently, the full update will take a few months to complete and Office 365 customers will be notified via email when the free unlimited storage becomes available for their account.

"For OneDrive for Business customers, unlimited storage will be listed on the Office 365 roadmap in the coming days, and we will begin updating the First Release customers in 2015, aligned with our promise to provide ample notification for significant service changes," said Chris Jones in its newest Blog post.

Microsoft's Office 365 Home costs US $9.99 per month and can be used on five PCs or Macs and five different tablets. The Office 365 Personal version is a bit more expansive and costs US $6.99 per month and can be only used on one PC or Mac and one tablet. Both of these versions come with online version of Office as well as online and offline storage and US $60 of Skype minutes per month.

When it comes to business editions, The Office Business Essentials costs $5 per user per month while the Office 365 Business that costs US $8.25 a month per user. The third option is the Office 365 Business Premium for $12.50 per month per user.

In case you missed it, Microsoft changed the name of its cloud storage service from SkyDrive to OneDrive back in January and currently offers a bit more value, since at US $6.99 you get Office 365 and unlimited storage, compared to Google's Drive and Dropbox who want US $9.99 a month for 1TB of storage space.
