Windows Phone 8 devices to have free Windows 10 upgrade

According to Microsoft

According to a recent report, it appears that all Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones will get a free upgrade to Windows 10 once it becomes available.

According to a fresh report from VentureBeat, it appears that Microsoft wants all of its Lumia Windows Phone 8 based smartphones on Windows 10 mobile edition OS, once it launches next year. While Microsoft will most likely offer this upgrade for free and hopes that all Windows Phone 8 devices will be upgraded, there are some devices that might not be suitable for such an update.

Microsoft has be struggling to keep up with iOS and Android platforms and hopes that the new Windows 10 will change its place on the mobile market.

In a response to VentureBeat's question about the updates, Microsoft spokesperson told VentureBeat that "It’s our intention to enable a Windows 10 upgrade for Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones. At this early stage in the development process, and given the vast portfolio of Windows devices worldwide, we can’t predict that all devices will be upgradeable, but it is our intention that the Lumia smartphone line be upgradeable to Windows 10.”

In any case, it appears that Windows Phone 8 supporters will get much needed attention once Windows 10 launches next year.
