SK Hynix has now officially listed the new HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) memory for Graphics Cards in its official portfolio. While it is listed for Q1 2015, this also means that AMD and Nvidia should already have that type of memory for GPU testing and implementation, including rumored R9 390X based on Fiji GPU.


Spotted by Wccftech.com, SK Hynix currently lists 4-Hi HBM Stack (4 Memory stack plus 1 logic stack) with 1Gb density and 128GB/s of bandwidth. This fits pretty good with recent rumors regarding AMD's upcoming Fiji GPU and the Radeon R9 390X graphics card. When compared to GDDR5 memory, as can be seen in the table below created by Wccftech.com, both 2-Hi and 4-Hi HBM Stacked DRAM offers significant performance improvements over the aforementioned GDDR5 memory.




Earlier rumors suggested that AMD R9 390X/380X, based on Fiji XT GPU will pack 4096 Stream Processors and a memory clock with effective memory bandwidth of 160GB/s per chip, which adds up to 640GB/s, suggesting that it will feature four 4-Hi HBM memory stacks.

In any case, HBM memory production is shaping up nicely and we will most likely see it on high-end GPUs sometime next year.
