LG announces the new Watch Urbane LTE

Adds LTE, GPS, NFC and better battery

While it already announced its LG Watch Urbane which should be unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2015, LG has now announced a new version of it, which will have extended connectivity, better battery and different OS, the LG Watch Urbane LTE.

To be also unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 which will kick off in Barcelona next week, the LG Watch Urbane LTE will feature cellular functionality, including LTE, VoLTE as well as GPS and NFC for mobile payments. In addition to adding new connectivity, LG has also somewhat changed the specifications for the LG Watch Urbane LTE, which, when compared to the earlier announced LG Watch Urbane, is still based on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz SoC, but now has 1GB of RAM and a larger 700mAh battery.

While beefier battery could make it a bit thicker compared to the LG Watch Urbane, it will help with LTE connectivity and is the largest battery squeezed inside a smartwatch so far. LG also announced that the LG Watch Urbane LTE will not be based on Google's Android Wear OS but rather on LG's own custom Android OS, called LG Wearable Platform. Since it has LTE connectivity and cellular functionality, the LG Watch Urbane LTE will also feature some sort of speaker, in addition to the microphone which is available for voice control on the LG Watch Urbane as well.

The rest of the specifications for the LG Watch Urbane LTE should be similar as it is still based on 1.3-inch 320x320, 245ppi, plastic OLED display, 4GB of internal storage, IP67 protection rating, gyro, accelerometer, compass, barometer and heart rate sensors.

Unfortunately, as it was a case with the LG Watch Urbane, LG is keeping the rest of the details, including price and availability date, for MWC 2015 show next week.
