Microsoft Xbox One Slim could come soon

As early as this year

A new report suggests that Microsoft might release a redesigned Xbox One soon. Actually they're talking about a release date at the end of this year or early next year. Apart from that we'd be expecting a slimmer version.

While it was only released in November 2013, Xbox One had a big problem with size, making Playstation 4 a bit more compact. While larger chassis of the Xbox One probably does wonders with cooling, the size of the console does matter to users as it is usually a key part of their living room. In addition to larger size, Xbox One also had a separate power supply, and this is something that Microsoft wants to fix as soon as possible.

According to the latest report, Microsoft could release a redesigned Xbox One by the end of this year, most likely before the holiday shopping season or early next year. While it is still not confirmed, most reports suggest this will be the Xbox One Slim.

Microsoft will mostly focus on the size of the Xbox One but will also try to lower the cost of components by moving the AMD SoC to a smaller manufacturing process. In case you missed it, both Xbox One and Playstation 4 are based on AMD's SoC made on 28nm manufacturing process and since we are on the brink of 20nm and 14nm manufacturing processes, it would make sense for Microsoft to make the SoC smaller.

In any case, we will know for sure as we draw closer to the end of this year as it is too early for anything to be carved into stone.
