Google also announces few new Chromebooks

US $249 ASUS Chromebook Flip and $149 Chromebooks

In addition to the small ASUS Chromebit, Google has also announced a few new Chromebooks, including a US $249 Chromebook Flip and two US $149 priced Chromebooks from Hisense and Haier.

While the cheapest Chromebook around so far was ASUS Chromebook C201, priced at US $169, Google has now updated the lineup with two even cheaper notebooks, the Haier Chromebook 11 and the Hisense Chromebook 11, both with 11.6-inch 1366x768 screens.

Both the Haier Chromebook 11 and the HiSense Chromebook 11 will will have similar specifications and run on the same Rockchip RK3288 SoC as the ASUS Chromebit HDMI ChromeOS stick. The Rockchip RK3288 SoC packs four Cortex-A17 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and ARM Mali-T764 GPU. The Rockchip SoC is paired up with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card slot. The rest of the featuers include two USB ports, HDMI output, stereo speakers, 802.11bgn WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.

According to known details, the Haier Chromebook 11 will have a battery life of up to 10 hours, while the HiSense Chromebook 11 will be able to stay alive for around 8 hours and 30 minutes.

The more interesting is definitely the US $249 priced ASUS Chromebook Flip. Being lighter and thinner than the other two devices, and being an all-metal convertible device that can double up as a tablet, the ASUS Chromebook Flip will be definitely quite interesting. According to Google, it weighs less than two pounds and is just 15mm thick. It is based on a smalle 10-inch touch screen and will be also powered by Rockchip SoC, most likely the same RK3288 one, paired up with 2GB or 4GB of RAM.

The rest of the known specifications include 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, 8 hour battery life and, of course, Google's ChromeOS.

The ASUS Chromebook Flip should be available in June with a price tag of US $249, while Haier and HiSense Chromebook 11 devices are already listed at Amazon.com and Walmart.com at US $149.
