Intel Skylake-S CPU desktop lineup detailed

Intel Core i7-6700K flagship

While Intel 14nm Skylake-S desktop CPUs are not expected to appear on the market before October, we now have a full list of Core i7 and Core i5 SKUs that will be a part of this lineup.

The list was complied by China-based BenchLife website and shows that Intel's Skylake-S lineup will include a total of 10 different Core i7 and Core i5 SKUs in three different categories with 35W, 65W and 95W TDP. The flagship offer, with 95W TDP, will include only two SKUs, Core i7-6700K and the Core i5-6600K. Both will be unlocked quad-core parts with support for DDR4-2133 memory.

The flagship Core i7-6700K quad-core part will have 8MB of total cache, support for Intel Hyper-Threading and work at 4.0GHz base and 4.2GHz Turbo Boost clocks. The Core i5-6600K has 6MB of total cache, lacks Hyper-Threding support and works at 3.5GHz base and 3.9GHz Turbo Boost clocks.

The second lineup includes mainstream CPUs with 65W TDP which will not be unlocked. The lineup includes a single Core i7-6700 part and four Core i5 part, the Core i5-6600, Core i5-6500 and the Core i5-6400. The Core i7-6700 is pretty much the same as the flagship unlocked part but has slightly lower 3.4GHz base and 4.0GHz Turbo Boost clocks.

The same story goes for the Core i5-6600 which works at 3.3GHz base and 3.9GHz Turbo Boost clocks. The Core i5-6500 and the Core i5-6400 share similar specifications with the Core i5-6600 but work at lower 3.2GHz and 2.7GHz base CPU clocks and 3.6GHz and 3.3GHz Turbo Boost clocks, respectively.

The last category is reserved for low-power 35W TDP SKUs and include four models, Core i7-6700T, Core i5-6600T, Core i5-6500T and the Core i5-6400T. As you can see from the table below, Intel has decided to keep the naming scheme simple and clean when it comes to Skylake-S lineup. These are pretty much the same as the 65W lineup except for much lower clock in order to fit in the 35W TDP range.

Eventually, Intel is expected to expand the lineup with more affordable Core i3, Pentium and Celeron parts based on the same architecture. The entire lineup is based on Intel's LGA1151 socket and will be compatible with Intel's upcoming 100-series chipset motherboards, Z170, Z150, Q170, Q150, B150 and H110.
