AMD Fiji XT-based R9 390X finally pictured

Fiji XT GPU, HBM, shorter PCB and liquid cooling

AMD's upcoming flagship graphics card, based on Fiji XT GPU, has been finally pictured and although it is not the best picture, we can still see some details.

Most likely named as the Radeon R9 390X, the Fiji XT flagship graphics card from AMD will be liquid cooled after all and feature the same black and silver color scheme that Radeon graphics card usually use. The picture also shows what appears to be a 120mm liquid cooling radiator and the graphics card itself is rather small, around half the length of the R9 295X2.

According to earlier reports, R9 390X will be available in two SKUs, an air-cooled one with a standard size PCB, as well as a liquid cooled version which should have a very compact PCB. The reason behind such shorter PCB size is in AMD's use of High Bandwidth Memory which is stacked close to the GPU.

While the the Fiji XT GPU should be generally bigger than Hawaii GPU, since it includes both the GPU and HBM, both probably covered by the same IHS, the PCB does not include memory chips lined up around the GPU, so it will practically only include the GPU and the VRM part.

The rest of the rumored specifications also include 4096 GCN 1.2 Stream Processors, 256 TMUs, 128 ROPs and a 4096-bit HBM interface, offering memory bandwidth of 640GB/s.

According to known details, the R9 390X should offer performance comparable to the dual-GPU R9 295X2, which ends up faster than the GTX Titan X.

According to AMD CEO, Lisa Su, Fiji XT-based Radeon R9 390X could launch on the sidelines of Computex 2015, or sometime in June.
