Google unveils the new Chromecast devices

Different design, better hardware

During its press event, Google has announced the new Chromecast devices, including the Chromecast for TV and the Chromecast Audio.

The new Chromecast 2.0 for TV, simply called Chromecast, has a new round design as well as updated hardware. It will be available in Black, Yellow and Red color choices, comes with a short HDMI cable and will turn any TV into a smart TV, allowing users to "Cast" a video from any device to your TV.




While it is still sticking to 1080p resolution and still needs an USB connector for power, Google has significantly updated the hardware on the new Chromecast, giving it faster 802.11ac WiFi. It also comes with support for plenty of popular applications including Netflix, Youtube, Pandora, Spotify, Google Play and more.

Google also updated support for devices as the new Chromecast will work with iOS and OS X devices like iPhone, iPad and Mac, as well as both Windows and Android devices.




In addition to the new Chromecast, Google also unveiled the Chromecast Audio, a similar designed device that can stream music to any device with 3.5mm, RCA or Optical audio connector. It still needs a USB port for power but can easily turn your old speakers into a wireless connected speakers for any device, allowing you to "Cast" (play) music from any device.




As it was the case with the new Chromecast, the Chromecast Audio also supports 802.11ac WiFi and should work with any Android 4.1 or higher, iOS 7.0 or higher, Mac OS X 10.7 or Windows 7 or higher device.




The new Chromecast should be already available with a price set at US $35/€39 which is also the same price for the Chromecast Audio.
