AMD takes some of discrete GPU market share

With GPU discrete dropping by 10.2 percent

According to a latest report, discrete GPU market share might have gone down by 10.2 percent compared to the last quarter but AMD has managed to gain quite a lot, raising its total market share to 29.4 percent.

According to a newest report by Mercury Research, the GPU discrete market has not been doing well as the sales have dropped significantly in Q1 2016, compared to the last quarter, with both mobile and desktop going down by 10.2 percent.

While Nvidi still holds a majority of the GPU desktop market share, AMD managed to raise its share in Q1 2016 by additional 3.2 percent, hitting 29.4 percent. The 3.2 gain includes both desktop and mobile discrete GPU market share.

Of course, Nvidia still leads with over 75 percent of the share and the recent launch of Pascal-based GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 certainly won't help AMD. AMD still has to launch its first Polaris based graphics cards around Computex 2016 show and since these will target mainstream market, AMD could gain a significant amount of GPU discrete market share.

Hopefully, GPU discrete market share will see a rise with these new GPU graphics cards from both Nvidia and AMD.
