Microsoft acquires LinkedIn for $26.2 billion

The biggest acquisition under Satya Nadella

Microsoft has announced that it will acquire LinkedIn for US $26.2 billion, which is the biggest acquisition for the company under the helm of CEO Satya Nadella.

In an all-cash deal, approved by the boards of directors of both companies and should be finalized later this year, that will allow Microsoft to take a piece of social-media market, a part where Microsoft has not been doing great lately.

LinkedIn currently has over 400 million registered users and hopefully, Microsoft will make it into something even bigger.

According to Microsoft, LinkedIn will remain independent within Microsoft, keeping both its name as well as its CEO, Jeff Weiner, who will report directly to Satya Nadella.

This is also the first big move by Satya Nadella since he became CEO of Microsoft over two years ago. Microsoft has already established itself as the "world's leading professional cloud" company and this acquisition will allow it to somehow mix its professional products with professional social networking.

We will probably hear more about Microsoft plans for LinkedIn as the deal is finalized and hopefully it will make it both bigger and better.
