MSI shows RX 480 Gaming graphics cards

With TwinFrozr cooler and factory OC

Being one of the largest and most important board partners of AMD MSI is always amongst the first vendors showing custom versions of new graphics cards. This time MSI is introducing the Radeon RX 480 Gaming X as well as the Gaming (non X). The difference between the two series is that the Gaming X ships with higher factory overclocking.

The new RX 480 Gaming as well as Gaming X graphics cards from MSI are both based on the same custom design PCB and they've both been equipped with the companies latest iteration TwinFrozr VI cooler. The Gaming and the Gaming X will be avialable with either 4 GB or 8 GB of GDDR5 memory clocking at 8.0 GHz. When it comes to clock speeds MSI put three different modes in place, which are called silent, gaming and OC Mode. Regarding the Gaming version of the card those clocks are 1266/1279/1292 MHz for silent/gaming/OC Mode respectively. In the case of the Gaming X variant clock speeds are 1266/1303/1316 MHz.

Having a look at the design reveals MSI is not changing anything on their gaming series graphics cards. The coolers shroud is still kept in a nice combination of black and red making it suite nicely with MSI gaming motherboards or other boards with the same color scheme. Over the generations the TwinFrozr cooler has proven to be very effective and silent, which is why we precisely the same from the 6th iteration. We especially appreciate the fact that the fans don't spin as long as the GPU runs cooler than 60°C.

Apart from clock speeds and heatsink the set of connectors used on this card is also good to know. MSI decided to go with two DisplayPort, two HDMI and one DVI-D connectors. All of them apparently support the latest standards.

Unfortunately there is no information on the pricing yet. What's know is that these cards will launch somewhen mid August 2016, which is accidentally close to this years Gamescom. For that reason we're pretty confident we'll find that card decorating the MSI booth there.
