Qualcomm confirm it has chips for Android Wear

Snapdragon for smartwatches

Back when Google Android Wear was announced we already have quite a few partners and we have already had a chance to see first pictures of smartwatches from LG and Motorola but we did not see any details regarding the chips that will power these small devices, despite the fact that both Qualcom, Intel, Broadcom, Mediatek and others were on the list of partners. In a quick interview with Pocket-lint, Qualcomm's representative has confirmed that Snapdragon line for Android Wear wearables is indeed coming.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoCs is currently in most smartphones on the market, especially when it comes to flagship solutions and although the company did not want to go into any specifics regarding Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC for Android Wear, it did note that it has a number of designs in development.

Qualcomm also has a slight advantage as, back in 2013, it has already released its own smartwatch, the Qualcomm Toq, which, despite being available on the market, was actually a concept device to show what Qualcomm can do for that market.

"Qualcomm Technologies is working with Google and our customers to enable innovative solutions for the wearable segment based on Android Wear and the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor portfolio. We have a number of designs in development and are excited at the potential opportunities for products and technologies across our portfolio in this emerging device category", Qualcomm spokeperson told Pocket-lint.com.
