Setup

Using the Control Center Software you can set all the basic parameters like reset, shutdown or sleep functions as well as FTP connecting in order to make sure that you'll definitely find the device in your home or small business network. Once this has been done, you can go to the web administration panel for a more advanced configuration.

Webinterface

The web interface looks very modern with sleek design and since the N4310 is a mainstream NAS device, the interface is not overloaded with tons of features. The N4310 is based on a special OS made by Thecus, which is easy to understand even for less experienced users, since everything is kept as simple as possibile. Each page includes a complete overview and each option is well marked and easy to alter. The web interface works fine in all tested browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer).

The system features an advanced user administration panel with various protocols for storage networking including iSCSI, which, for example, could be an important factor in small or medium-sized business environment. Since the N4310 comes with plenty of settings, you also get a small search engine which does a great job and quickly leads to the desired configuration tab. We also appreciated the Thecus's App concept, which offers a fast way to find over 600 ready-to-used apps, which can be installed by one single click. It doesn't matter if you're looking for a CMS, a Wiki or a Download Center, you can easily change settings with just a few clicks. Last but not least, you can monitor CPU, memory, hard drive and network usage via a specific monitoring app. Once again, we are surprised by the simplicity of this device especially for daily usage.
