With the Alumic, Roccat shows an aluminium mousepad which - according to the manufacturer - should be very well built. Additionally to the Alumic you also get a comfortable gel wrist rest. Furthermore the two sides of the pad come with different textures and you therefore get two different mousepads at once.
On the following pages we will show you the strengths and weaknesses of the Roccat Alumic Mousepad.

Gliding characteristics
|
This
mousepad has been tested with different mice also from Roccat. Therefore
we were using the Roccat Kone[+] and the Roccat Kova[+]. Moving either
of the mice we used the Alumic with resulted in almost no noise at all.
Especially if you're one of the gamers that uses a headset all the time
this definitely wont bother you. Furthermore the gliding characteristics
are very good too. If you have the mousepad in the position with the
smooth side up the mouse glides over the pad with very low resistance.
If you're the kind of gamer who likes sufaces which are a bit rougher
then you can simply flip the Alumic over.
On both sides of the pad you find rubber feet which give it a safe stand
and lift the pad about two millimeters from the surface. As this
mouspads name already suggests the Alumic is mad of aluminium. This
makes it ver tough and almost invincible against wear and tear. |
Comfort
Because
of its low height you wont feel the Alumic in your wrist. The size is
perfect for mid-sense as well as high-sense gamers. Low-sense users will
prefer a pad which is bigger because the simply need more space for
their sweep movements. Once the pad isn't perfectly clean anymore you
can clean it with a wet cloth and bit of soap. |

Stability / Adhesive properties
|
Thanks
to the four rubber feet the pad doesn't move an inch over the table. The
pad can only be moved if you first lift it up. Furthermore the surface
of the table has no influence. It doesn't matter if it is rough or
absolutely even the Alumic always has a safe stand. |

Conclusion
Regarding size and material the Roccat
Alumic is a very good product. Very practical is that one can simply flip it
over and then you're going to get either a rough or a very smooth textured
surface. In other words you get two mouspads in one. Because the pad is made of
aluminium it es very easy to clean and it takes a lot until there are scratches.
A closer look at the Alumics
build quality reveals that this is very well done. All the edges are soft and
therefore you wont feel it cutting into your wrist. The four rubber feet give
the pad a very safe stand and it can only be repositioned if you lift it up. And
last but not least the gel wrist rest is a very comfortable addition. But here
we have to add that not everybody likes it when the hand isn't lying on the
table. For this reason it attached to the pad itself. It is optional and you can
add the rest if you like.
Overall the Roccat Alumic is a very good product and
there simply isn't anything that could have been done better. Therefore this
mouspad get five ot of five stars.
