With their Armageddon cooler, Prolimatech has a tower cooler in its portfolio which is capable of removing a lot of heat at low temperatures. Depending on what fans you choose, you can either put this cooler into a silent PC over a powerful gaming rig. Furthermore this cooler also features an attractive design. You'll find nickel plated heatpipes as well as a nickel plated base and fins.

The Armageddon comes well protected from outer influeces, therefore none of the parts included in the box will be damaged during transportation. Prolimatech includes only an Intel mounting kit. Therefore the cooler is not compatible AMD motherboards. Furthermore Prolimatech ships this cooler with not fans in the box. In fact that do this on purpose, since they want the user to choose the fan that fits its needs perfectly.

Construction and design
Construction
If we had to define the type of cooler the Armageddon is, then we would describe it as a tower cooler. This type of cooler comes with the advantage that manufacturers can realize a huge area for heat dissipation. The disadvantage over down-draft coolers is that no air is directed towards the motherboard, therefore non of the onboard components receive direct cooling. Prolimatech manufactures their Armageddon cooler from aluminium and copper. You can find a copper base plate which leads the dissipation power to six heatpipes which all have a diameter of six millimeters. Altogether there are 44 fins soldered to the heatpipes for perfect heat transfer. To provide this cooler with a very special look the entire surface has been nickel plated.
Design
We did not see any manufacturing mistakes on our sample, and it seems that it has been very well made which means that manufacturing quality is on an excellent level. The heatpipes do have different bending radius, which results in less additional vortex. Furhtermore this cooler comes with a total of 44 fins. Prolimatech chose an identical fin design for both sides of the cooler. On top of the cooler there is a thick aluminium plate to cover the heatpipes. Furthremore this gives the cooler a very nice finish.

Mounting
Prolimatech ships their Armageddon with a mounting kit, which is compatible to the Intel sockets only. Basically mounting the cooler is simple, but still we'd recommend to consult the manual since there are quite a few pieces which need to be put together before the cooler can actually be mounted.
On these pictures you can clearly see that the Armageddon has been reasonably sized. Therfore it's possible to install memory modules which feature oversized heatsinks.

Testroutine
The CPU is being evaluated using Real Temp and with Prime95 we reach nearly 100% load on the CPU. For measuring the noise level we use a Voltcraft SL-200 decibel meter, which is positioned one meter from the CPU cooler with the fan mounted.

| With the Armageddon, Prolimatech really shows a good cooler. In terms of cooling capacity the Armageddon has been able to reach the center span of our comparison tables. In this regard we have to say that the competition is very hard concerning our test field. There are almost no cheap coolers in our comparison table and therefore the Armageddon has to compete with the absolute best in class. It's not only the performance that is on a good level with this cooler, we also like the build quality, which is excellent and the design that features full nickel plating. | -

During our tests we used two fans from Xigmatek, which feature a diameter of 140 millimeter. If you drive both fans at 7 Volt you can't hear them anymore and at 12 Volt they can be described as audible. In the end performance at higher rotation speed was better then a lower rotation speed, when compared to the competition. We think this is because the fins are quite densely packed. Therefore a higher airflow is needed to reach good cooling results. |
