With the Shrike H2L, Tesoro shows its first gaming bread, that has been developed under the slogan, from gamers for gamers. What you get are eight programmable buttons, memory that can store up to five different profiles permanently and a lot of DPI. Not bad, right? Furthremore the product should be competitively priced. Overall this sounds like a compelling offer.
On the following pages we will show you the strengths and weaknesses of the Tesoro Shrike.

Closer Look
As you can see from the images above, the Shrike features three
different surfaces, when you look at the product from above. Basically the
entire product is made from plastic, whereas the top cover looks like it's been
made from hairline brushed aluminium. Other parts of the mouse are made from
polished plastic and the area, where you put your thumb comes with a thick
rubber coating. Overall the design fits perfectly into Tesoro's lineup. You can
find the same kind of surfaces and colors on other products from Tesoro too.
Another neat feature is the background lighting of the buttons, which makes them
well visible also at nighttime in the dark. Furthermore you'll find Tesoro's
logo, which has been engraved and it's not too prominent but still well visible.
Bottom side and weight stones
Tesoro decided to
equip this mouse with an Avago 9600, state-of-the-art laser sensor. The maximum
resolution is 5600 DPI, which should be plenty for every gamer out there.
Furthremore this mouse has been equipped with glidepads made from teflon. We
recommend to use this mouse in combination with a mousmat, that is made from
plastic or aluminium. It should also have a fine structure. Under these
circumstances gliding characteristics are excellent. Also a neat addition are
the weight stones. There are three pieces that weigh ten grams and one piece
that weighs five grams.

Software
Tesoro put an
installation CD into the box. We have to say, we actually like this, since most
of the manufacturers can't be bothered with this anymore, but sometimes it would
just be great if you don't have to go the manufacturers website first to get the
latest drivers. On the other had we for sure recommend to check whether there is
an updated version of the software available for download or not.
The software GUI's is perfectly in line with the attractive design of the mouse, it is practical and easy to use. With this program, you can configure up to a maximum of 40 macros. The settings can be exported and imported, which is useful if you want to compare your settings with those of your friends.

Conclusion
Build quality
Tesoro's Shirke is a high quality product. The
build quality is on a high level and if you for example take it in you hand and
squeeze it firmly you won't hear creaking noises. We also liked the buttons
which feature a reasonably chose click resistance. Furthremore endurance should
be on a level that even excessive MMO gamers should be able to enjoy this
product.
Design
Regarding
the design we were reminded of Tesoro's Durandal keyboard we've reviews about a
week ago. We really like it when a manufacturer provides different products with
a very similar design. Of course design is a mattar of subjectivity, but when
something is done in a nice and decent way on several different products, then
it make it much more likely that you buy several products from one manufacturer
instead of only one product.
Software
The software is well structured and easy to use.
We liked the possibility to import and export profiles, which is very useful in case of backup or sharing with friends. One note about the lack of integration with other Tesoro's software:
each device creates its own icon in the tray bar, so if you have a mouse and keyboard you will have two icons
displayed. In the end we would love to see two things changed: first of all
there is the software integration and the second thing concerns the fact, that
apart from the software, you just don't get a hint which DPI setting you're
using when the software is in the tray icon.
Perfomance
It's a well known fact, that the Avago 9600 is a very good
laser sensor for up to date mice. The maximum resolution of 5600 DPI is well
chosen and it should be enough for any kind of gamer. Furthermore we like the
glide pads Tesoro is using. They are made from Teflon and they are quite big. If
you combine this mouse with a plastic or an aluminium mousepad, that features a
fine structure, then you'll experience excellent gliding characteristics with
very little friction. Since this mouse features a medium size body it perfectly
suites medium sized hands. It is also the case, that this mouse has been
designed for right-handed users. If these two things are given, then ergonomics
are on a very good level.
Price
The price of the Shrike is CHF 59.90
or about 50 Euro. In terms of value, it is certainly a product, that features an
excellent price/performance ratio.
Tesoro Shrike H2L gets
four out of five stars.
