Microsoft extends Windows support on Skylake CPUs

Until 2018

Microsoft had a rather harsh policy when it comes to support for Skylake CPUs on older Windows versions but now it appears that it buckled under the pressure and has extended support.

Previously, Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 would be the only Windows OS version supported on Skylake CPUs with support for Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 ending on July 17th, 2017. After this date, systems with Skylake CPUs would be only getting critical security updates.

Thankfully, Microsoft has decided to update this support policy and has extended support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 on Skylake systems. Those running these older Windows operating systems will h ave full support until July 17th, 2018. This will give users another year before they have to switch to newer OS.

After July 17th, 2018, users running on Skylake system will only be getting critical security updates before Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 OS support reaches end of support on January 14th, 2020 and January 10th, 2023, respectively.
