AMD launches the RX 550 graphics card

Sub-$100 US price tag

AMD has now officially launched their RX 550 graphics card with sub-$100 US pricing. This card is meant for budget oriented PC builders, since it is an affordable pixel accelerator for basic gaming setups or multi-monitor workstations. Compared to the RX 460, the RX 550 a little bit slower but at the same time also much cheaper.

There will be two different versions of this card available, while one is a 2GB and the other a 4GB variant. The price points are supposed to be around $79 US and $100 US, respectively. Although this is a really cheap GPU it’s powerful enough to run popular games like Overwatch, League of Legends, DOTA 2 and CS:GO.

Regarding the specs the Radeon RX 550 features 512 Stream Processors, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The base clock is set to 1100MHz and Boost clock to 1183MHz. The memory interface is 128-bit wide and supports GDDR5 memory chips.

PCWorld has already reviewed this card and it appears to offer some ‘gaming’ capabilities, although most games will have to be run at low settings to consider them playable.

So far AMD has not revealed any precise information on availability of their RX 550 and it’s also unclear whether this cards is going to find its way into the retail market. Therefore there is a possibility that one system integrators and OEM might be able to buy this card.
