First motherboard for AMD EPYC from Gigabyte

16 DIMM slots

With the MZ30-AR0 Gigabyte introduced their first single-socket motherboard for AMDs EPYC processors, which will allow for building potent workstations mainly as well as servers with up to 32 cores and 64 threads. The board will feature AMD’s new SP3r2 LGA socket making you worry less about the possibility of bent pins.

Moving on to the specifications of this board; since EPYC is a fully-fledged SoC there is no chipset on the Gigabyte MZ30-AR0 motherboard. Thanks to an ASpeed AST2500 there is basic display output and IPMI capability for remote management. Apart from that there are two 8-pin EPS power connectors as well as a 24-pin ATX inlet. Furthermore there is a total of 16 DDR4 DIMM slots present, which support up to 512 GB of RAM in octa-channel configuration.

Having a look at the expansion slots there are five full-sized PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot of which four have been wired using 16 lanes and one features 8 lanes. Apart from that there are two x8 slots. In the case of storage connectivity there are four slimSAS 12 Gbps ports, 16 SATA-III headers and a 32 Gbps M.2 slot. In order to realize beefy network connections two 10 Gbps Ethernet ports have been put on this board in the shape of Broadcom BCM57810S chips. Next to them there is also a 1 Gbps Ethernet port.

So far Gigabyte has not revealed any details on pricing and availability. A quick check didn’t reveal anything additional and therefore we’ll have to wait for these boards to appear to find out what they cost.
