Samsung Portable SSD T5 introduced

Slightly smaller than the predecessor

Samsung has introduced the next iteration of their portable SSDs. The new Samsung Portable SSD T5 drives features the latest 64-layer V-NAND flash memory and the company claims to provide "industry-leading transfer speeds with encrypted data security". The transfers speeds are supposed to reach up to 540MB/s and the drives connects to your computer via a USB Type-C interface.

Samsung’s Portable SSD T5 measures 74 x 57 x 10 millimetres and it easily fits in any pocket. Apart from that it just weighs a mere 51 grams. The enclosure is made from aluminum which makes it sturdy and on top of that helps with cooling. According to Samsung, the T5 can be dropped from two meter height and it will still work afterwards. Furthermore, speaking about another kind of security, password protection with AES 256-bit hardware encryption is possible.

Compared to the older T3 models, the Portable T5 offers up to 100MB/s higher transfer speeds at the same price. The Samsung T5 is already available on Geizhals. The smallest version, the 250GB model, costs 138 Euro while the massive, 2TB one, would set you back 830 Euro. The entire T5 lineup includes a 250GB, a 500GB, a 1TB and a 2TB model. While the first two models come with blue enclosures, the two others feature a black unibody shell.

Samsung's new Portable SSD T5 is not just compatible with computers but also supports a wide range of smartphones, tablets and TVs. For the full list please check the official product page.
