Plextor announces S3G SSD availability

Up to 256GB capacity

Plextor has shown their S3G SSDs series, which are based on Hynix’s 14nm TLC NAND Flash memory. The S3G drives are available with 128GB and 256GB capacity. All the S3G SSDs come with a M.2 2280 form factor, which makes them suitable for ultrabooks as well.

The Plextor S3G SSD is going to be available with 128GB and 256GB capacity. Since this SSD is based on TLC NAND flash memory its price is rather competitive and performance is supposed to be somewhere in the mid-tier compared to other drives. Like most M.2 SSDs out today, the Plextor S3G SSD makes use of the M.2 2280 form factor and a SATA interface. Plextor uses the SMI 2254 controller which is fairly common on this kind of drives.

Looking at the performance figures, sequentially reading these drives should hit up to 550MB/s and 510MB/s in the case of sequential writing. In the case of random performance it's supposed to reach 71'000 IOPS reading and up to 90'000 IOPS writing 4k blocks. All drives are backed by a three year warranty plan and prices start at 64€ for the 128GB variant, and go up to 103€ for the 256GB model.
