Supermicro announces two SuperO X299 motherboards

With black color scheme

During CES 2018, Supermicro has shown two X299 motherboard for Intel's X299 platform. Compared to the previous generation of motherboards, the new series look much better with a cleaner design and thanks to a simpler color scheme. The motherboards are based on a similar PCB and the only big difference is the IPMI remote management and the TDP support.

The SuperO C9X299-PG300 is an ATX model and it comes with four full-sized PCIe slots and steel reinforcements as well as one PCIe x1 slot. In the case of storage you'll find six angled SATA ports, two U.2 ports and two M.2 slots. Furthermore there are additional features such as a debug display, support for USB 3.1 and a good mix of connectors at the I/O panel.

The C9X299-PGF is an ATX model as well and it comes with three full-sized PCIe slots with steel reinforcements. Storage wise there are six angled SATA ports, two U.2 ports and two M.2 slots. In addition this motherboard comes with the IPMI chip (Intelligent Platform Management Interface). This is a server feature that allows remote control and monitoring of the PC.

Since Supermicro is the brand behind SuperO, it's not a surprise that there is a feature on this enthusiast grade motherboard, that derives from the server world. In our opinion it's great to see Supermicro putting server features on their mainstream/enthusiast boards, which could help set them apart from the competition. While the SuperO C9X299-PG300 is compatible with CPUs with TDP up to 300W, the C9X299-PGF supports only CPUs with 165W TDP.

So far Supermicro has not revealed details on pricing and availability on their two X299 motherboards but we'll certainly keep you posted on this.
