Patriot launches Viper M.2 NVMe 1.3 SSD

Based on new generation controllers

Patriot is aiming to join the high-end M.2 market with another series of SSDs called Viper. A few days ago, Phison has unveiled four new controllers and Patriot is one of the first company that is adopting them.

The new Viper NVMe SSD is going to be available from 256GB up to 2TB capacity and uses 64-layer BICS 3D NAND memory from Toshiba. Like most NVMe SSDs out today, the Viper NVMe SSD makes use of the M.2 2280 form factor and a PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 interface. Talking about performance, sequentially reading these drives should achieve up to 3'200MB/s and 3'000MB/s in the case of sequential writes. The Viper will make use of Phison E12 controller and supports up to 8 NAND channels.

So far Patriot has not revealed any details on pricing and availability regarding their upcoming SSDs.
