MSI X399 MEG Creation spotted

First motherboard for Threadripper 2000 CPUs

According to latest rumors, this year we will not see any AMD X499 motherboard since AMD is going to use existing X399 chipset for the upcoming Threaripper 2000 series of processors. Techpowerup has spotted probably the first motherboard compatible with this CPUs. The motherboard is based on E-ATX form factor and sports several USB ports.

The layout of the X399 MEG Creation AC concurs with today's de facto standards for high-end motherboards and therefore there are four full-sized PCIe 3.0 x16 slots and one PCIe x1 slot for instance.

Furthermore we find eight angled SATA ports and two M.2 slots allowing the installation of differently sized SSDs. While the first M.2 slot is placed between the PCIe slots, the second one is close on the 24-pin power connector. Both M.2 slots are covered with MSI Xpander Aero heatsink.

MSI equipped the X399 MEG Creation motherboard with six USB 3.0 ports, two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and two USB 3.1 Gen2 headers. We aren't sure about the version of this ports since MSI has used the same color for each header. Furthermore there are two Gigabit Ethernet ports and the analogue audio panel with optical out as well as a WiFi module with two connectors for antennas.
