Intel document confirms eight core CFL-S CPU

Xeon-E CFL-S is coming

A few weeks ago, we have reported several news about an alleged eight-core Coffee Lake CPU. According to the latest rumors, this CPU might be soon available however it will belong to the Xeon family instead of the Core series as supposed until now.

Over at Intel's site, you can find a Dear Customer Letter (DCL) that confirms the existence of this processor die. In addition, Intel hasn't officially launched the Coffee Lake Xeon-E series yet. Since this upcoming eight core is an engineering sample, we can expect to see this CPU rather sooner than later. At the moment there isn't any detail about the clock frequency or TDP.

At the moment it isn't clear if the upcoming Xeon series will be compatible with current Intel 300 series of motherboard or if it will need a specific chipset. Since Skylake, Intel has introduced a specific chipset for its desktop Xeon CPUs but we hope to see a consumer version that will not require a different motherboard. We will keep an eye on it.
