GTX 780 is everything but cheap

499.99 US-Dollar, a dream

Towards the end of the last month more and more reports surfaced, that NVIDIA is about to launch their GeForce GTX 7-Series graphics cards. Today SweClockers reports, that NVIDIA want to benefit from the fact, that AMD is quite lethargic these days when it comes to releasing new desktop graphics cards, since their more than busy with all the console deals. In the meantime NVIDIA is planning to attack AMD on the market for discrete desktop graphics cards.

According to a report from SweClockers, Nvidia might aim for much higher price tag, making the GTX 780 closer to the Titan rather than the GTX 680. The report points out that we might see a price tag that is much higher than the US $499.99.

Since the GeForce GTX 780 will be based on the GK110 chip, one can assume, that the price will be more in the region of NVIDIAs GeForce GTX Titan. Actually, it could be even worse. As a matter of fact, the GK110 still offers headroom for an even faster GPU. With the GTX Titan you get a GK110 based card, that doesn't make use of all SMX units. Therefore it's possible that NVIDIA may release something like a GTX Titan Ultra.
