Sony and Viacom streaming offer

A push for IPTV

Comedy Central, MTV, BET, CMT, VH1, Nickelodeon and Spike, and an on demand server should be included in the Sony/Viacom package. But will it be enough to secure enough market share in the US TV competition and what about the Microsoft/SKY cooperation?

It looks like Sony is about to team up with Viacom, one of the biggst TV broadcasting companies in the US. So far, the two company seem to be planning an IPTV channel, which should compete with the offerings from Microsoft and Sky. It's very likely, that in the beginning the new offer will only be available in the US.

Basically Sony wants to stream cable-channels and on demand offerings to the PlayStation as well as Sony Smart TV's. In a later stage the may expand the service to tablet and mobile phones. This looks like Sony first wants to see the reaction of consumers this offering before they bring the cooperation to the next stage.

In any case, it will be interesting to see if Sony and Viacom are going to be successful.
