Toshiba announces the new MC Series HDDs

Up to 5TB of storage for cloud computing

Toshiba has announced its newest high-capacity hard disk designed for storage systems and servers, supporting cloud-based applications, the MC Series. To be available with up to 5TB of storage capacity and 7200RPM spin speed, making it perfect for workloads and storage in the cloud computing segment.

The MC Series is based on a standard 3.5" form-factor, and will be available in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB and 5TB capacity. The entire lineup is certified for 180TB of read and write per year, which is more than three times what a desktop HDD can achieve. Thanks to the 5TB capacity, the Toshiba MC Series is more efficient in many ways as it means fewer disks inside the system, therefore less power consumption and cooling is needed. The entire lineup features the SATA 6Gbps interface and the Advance Format sector technology.

"Our customers need efficient, high-capacity storage for their cloud-based servers and storage platforms," said Don Jeanette, senior director of marketing at Toshiba Storage Products Business Unit. "With capacity points up to 5TB and 7,200 RPM performance, the Toshiba MC Series delivers the capabilities that today's scale-out cloud architecture and use-cases require."
