As expected the ASUS Prime X299-A is a well-built motherobard which comes with numerous features. There is a good looking design, which has been kept in black, white and grey. Apart from that the PCH cooler come with RGB backlight which can be controlled from within Windows. Furthermore there is a capable power design next to other high quality components. These days the Prime X299-A sells for 260 Euro, which reasonable. Last but not least there is a bunch of USB 3.1 ports, there are two M.2 slots and three full-sized PCIe slots, which is basically all you might need even for a high-end system.

Layout   + -
The ASUS Prime X299-A's layout has been well-thought. Once more practical are the angled SATA connectors. Apart from that there is a power button as well as a debug LED but there is no reset button. Looking at the three full-sized PCI Express slots all of them have been equipped with metal reinforcements. Furthermore we find two M.2 slots. One of them requires the SSD to be installed perpendicular to the motherboard and we're absolutely no fan of this solution. Last but not least the PCH received RGB backlight, which can be configured either from within Windows or via BIOS.   - Espace autour du socket - Solution audio - 1 x M.2 slot requires perpendicular mounting
