CM Storm Reaper belongs to the new aluminum series and it is a gaming mouse, which Cooler Master decided to equip with the latest and greates Avago ADNS-9800 sensor. Like other products in the same series, the Reaper has an aluminum plate, which is customizable and therefore ideal for gamers and modders alike. So far we're really curious if the gaming mouse is any good or not.

Closer Look

Having a first look at the Reaper quickly shows, that this is a voluminous and ergonomically shaped gaming mouse. This rodent has been built to suite the needs of right-handed people. Other than that there is a surface, which is very grippy and features a matte finish. The bottom part of the Reaper as well as the mouse wheel are made from Aluminium, whereas the wheel is actually surprisingly heavy. Additionally the wheel comes with quite a rough structured surface, which also grips very well. Inbetween the back metal plate and the DPI buttons, there is a light strip which offers very decent and appealing backlight. Also in the front, on both sides of the braided cable, there is one LED each which look like headlights of a car, once one.
The Reaper also uses well-known Omron switches which can withstand more than 50 million klicks. In total there are eight buttons: the classics left and right, the wheel, two buttons placed behind the wheel (usually for DPI regulation) and three close to the thumb.

Bottom side and weight stones

CM Storm decided to equip the Reaper with an Avago 9800, state-of-the-art laser sensor. The maximum resolution is 8200 DPI, more than enough for every kind of gamer. The laser sensor is not placed in the center but more in the front. If you're looking for additonal weight stones, you will be disappointed, since there aren't any. Netto weight of this mouse is 145 gram, which is actually quite heavy. Cooler Master decided to provide the Reaper with big glide pads, which got positioned in a symmetrical manner. Furthermore the glide pads are made from teflon, which means they will last very long. A closer look at the cable reveals, that it has been braided an the plug received gold platining.

Software

CM Storm didn't include the software in the bundle. In this case you first have to go to the manufacturers website to download the latest version yourself. Once that is done, and once you installed it properly, you will see, that the software is very easy to use, yet offers quite an extensive amount of functions. In this case you change virtually everything you can possibly think of: DPI level, polling rate, LED brightness and much more. Following you will find screenshots of the software can be downloaded here.

Conclusion

General   + -
CM Storm Reaper is a very solid product, overall we are impressed by build quality and design. The aluminium plate adds extra weight but at same time the design becomes unique. So far this is one of the best built gaming mice we've ever come accross. The only thing we didn't like too much is the high weight of this gaming mouse, although we have to add, this is a personal preference.   - Design
- Build quality
-Large and heavy

Perfomance   + -
We have already reviewed a gaming mouse with the excellent Avago 9500 sensor and the reaper is based on the even newer Avago 9800, which really is king of the hill. 8200 DPI resolution is definitely more then every gamer might ever need. Furthermore we like the glide pads, which are made from teflon are big and the offer excellent gliding characteristics. We have used the Reaper with a Power-RX mousemat and the experience is just great. With its 145g, it is not a lightweight mouse and it's slightly unbalanced on the front; if you put too much weight on the front part of the mouse while pressing buttons, the back is going to lift.   - Avago ADNS-9800
- Pad surfers
- Not fully balanced

Software   + -
The CM Storm's software is a pleasant surprise. It is well-structured, easy to use and with a tons of options. You will be able to change the aesthetics as well as all the functional aspects.   - Import / export profiles

Recommendation   + -
Using geizhals.eu to check prices we see that the CM Storm Reaper goes for 65 Euros excluding shipping costs. The price is ok, especiall since this is a high-end product. The performance is excellent and the ergonomics are great. If you are looking for a gaming mouse with a unique design and good quality, we recommend the CM Storm Reaper.   - Price
