Overview

The Wi-Copy from Apotop measures 88 x 74 x 22 mm and weighs 150 grams. The entire surface is made of soft touch material and all edges are rounded in order to ensure better portability. As far as the connections are concerned, the Wi-Copy comes with a USB 2.0 port and an SD slot at the front, while the back features a 10/100Mbit Ethernet port as well as a micro-USB connector. Apart from that the device supports three different modes: Off, Charging mode and Wi-Fi mode. The internal battery comes with a capacity of 5200 mAh and it’s not just capable of providing power to the unit itself, it can also be used to recharge other portable devices at a maximum of 1.5A. Battery life of the Apotop is pretty good, in fact, we managed to get about half a day with heavy usage. Once you activate the Wi-Fi mode, you can take full advantage of the potential of this little accessory. With the Wi-Copy, as the name suggests, you can connect to up to five devices via WiFi, simultaneously. In addition, once you hook up the Ethernet port to a network cable, it is also possible to use it as a WiFi router or WiFi repeater. There are actually quite a few features built into this little device and they are doing their job just the way they’re supposed to.

Software

Overview

In order to access the full functionality of Wi-Copy, you can choose two ways, either the app for Android / iOS or the web interface. We have downloaded the application available on the Android store, which is fully compatible with our Moto G equipped which runs Android 4.4.2. The user interface is well designed and there are the same colors used, which you can find on Apotops official website. There are lots of different settings and options available and amongst others you can import/export files. The application from Apotop also shows a preview of any file, but this feature is not always available in this type of application.
The web interface is accessible via 10.10.1.1 address and the design looks a little poor in our opinion. With our laptop, which features 1366 x 768 resolution, the layout was overall well aligned, but we couldn’t say the same for our Moto G. In fact with a lower resolution the navigation through the browser is somewhat difficult, even when the device is rotated into landscape mode. Compared to the mobile application, the available settings via the web interface are a bit more advanced, in fact, only through this mode you can enable DLNA, set the router settings, enable all passwords and set all the encryption modes available (WEP, WPA / WPA2, WPA).

Conclusion

Apotop Wi-Copy is definitely a very interesting gadget with quite a bunch of useful functions. Thanks to this device you can not only read and write on the peripherals plugged to Wi-Copy, you can also share files over a local network. The Apotop Wi-Copy allows you to simultaneously connect and share with up to a maximum of five devices. Since it is a gadget designed primarily for mobile devices, it also features a rather large 5200 mAh battery which ensures a battery life of approximately 14 hours. In addition, the same battery can also be used to charge other devices, even in Fast Charge mode. The Apotop Wi-Copy, comes with a built-in Ethernet port and can be used as a WiFi router transforming any wired connection into a WiFi hotspot.
To access all the different functions this device offers you have to install either the free app for Android/iOS or the web interface. The application for mobile devices is easy to use, well made and with a good number of options. The web interface, on the other hand, could have a better layout and a more sophisticated design. Overall there are many features and we did not have any problems using them.

The Apotop Wi-Copy is a really handy gadget and compatible with Windows, Linux, Mac, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and probably any device equipped with a WiFi module. If you travel a lot and you spend some time in hotel rooms with colleagues or friends, this little thing could be very useful considering the sharing capabilities that it offers. At the moment, it is available on Geizhals at a price of around 90 euro excluding shipping costs. Given the features offered and the quality of this device we believe that the price is adequate.
We give the Apotop Wi-Copy 4 out of 5 stars.
