Bundle

Overview

The Deep Silence 5 box comes in a pretty simple box. It is made out of cardboard and lists all the most important features of the Deep Silence 5. Inside the box, there is the case itself, protected by a plastic cover. To ensure that nothing is going to break during shipping, Nanoxia used two big pieces of plastic-sponge which is more than enough to protect the Deep Silence 5. The bundle is quite simple but complete as you get a user manual with colored pictures which explain how to use all the Deep Silence 5 features, a great number of screws, extension cable, slot adapter, standoffs and zip-ties.

Product overview

Overview

The Deep Silence 5 features a simple and neat design. Nanoxia manufactures this case from high quality metal and plastic. The front door comes with a black panel which covers four 5.25" slots placed at the top of the case as well as the two front fans. In the upper area, right behind the front door, you can find a dual switch with three differents steps, which allows you to control the speed of up to a maximum of six fans. The bundle also includes three Nanoxia 140mm fans. The doors itself, as well as the side panels, are equipped with thick sound-absorbing material, which has become a trademark for most Nanoxia cases. The I/O panel features two USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports, the power and reset buttons as well as the standard audio jacks. On both sides of the front panel there are a few small openings, which allow the front fans to pull fresh air into the case. The side panels, even if they look quite simple, are actually the most important piece of the soundproofing system as they've both been equipped with soundproofing material, which is actually pretty heavy and does a good job at absorbing noise.
The back panel is simple and you get ten PCI expansion slots, the opening for the motherboard I/O panel, a 140mm fan slot and the opening for the standard ATX power supply. Underneath the case there are four plastic feet with an alumium finish, which ensure that the PSU can suck in enough fresh air.

Installation

Overview

The interior of the Deep Silence 5 is clean and simple, and it features a classic design as well as layout. There is space for up to four 5.25" devices, eleven 3.5" or 2.5" drives. All of them can be put on sledges, which allow for too-less installation system. Unlike many other manufacturers, Nanoxia didn't make any mistake with the HDD cage, as infact, they are completely removable and you will be able to reconfigure the internal layout to suite your needs. The motherboard tray is made out of solid steel, and it features a big opening behind the socket, which allows the user to install aftermarket CPU coolers without having to remove the motherboard beforehand. The tray features nine openings with rubber groomets to create a neat cable management. Between the motherboard tray and the right panel there is enough space to hide plenty of cables. The whole interior, except for the back and bottom panels, has been equipped with soundproofing material to reduce system noise.
In order to check compatibility, we've used an ATX motherboard  and a medium sized tower cooler. As you can see from the pictures there is more than enough space to install components. In fact, an ATX motherboard looks small in the Nanoxia DS5. A closer look at the specs regarding the height of coolers reveals that models that measure up to 185 millimeter in height can be installed. In the case of graphics cards, they can measure up to 388 milliemter in length. This makes it for example possible to easily install our massive Club 3D R9 290X GPU.

Ventilation options

Overview

The Deep Silence 5 offers plenty of places for fans and inside the delivery you will find three 140mm fans with green blades and black frame. Overall, this case offers space for two 140mm fans at the front, one 140mm at the rear and up to two fans at the top.
If you are a fan of liquid cooling systems you will be happy to know that the Deep Silence 5 is also perfect for that type of cooling. Thanks to the fact, that there is plenty of space and modular cages, you will be able to mount a 280mm radiator at the front and a 240/280mm at the top.

Conclusion

General   + -
The Nanoxia Deep Silence 5 is a well though, big-tower PC case which puts a lot of attention to the noise insulation features. At this point the engineers have really been thinking about how to reduce noise as efficiently as possible. Furthermore, we also liked the two removable hard drive cages as well as the modular solutions in general. There is even a small fan controller to which you can attach up to six fans.

- Price - Fan controller - Design
- Noise insulation
- Huge bundle

Manufacturing quality / Ergonomics   + -
Overall, the build quality is on a very good level. Nanoxia didn't make the mistake to go for a super thin side panels in order to save weight. They used solid metal sheets which are paired up with noise isolation material which ended in a stable and reasonably stiff panels. Furthermore, hardware installation is quite simple and straightforward. We also appreciated the fact that there are several holes in the motherboard tray to route cables to the backside of the board. Nanoxia decided to make the case a bit wider, therefore, the cables, which have been routed to the backside, can be easily placed there.

- High quality materials
- Rubber groomets
- Internal space

Design / Layout   + -
As far as the design is concerned, we think that nobody could ever say something negative about the Deep Silence 5, mainly because it features a simple look, and has no strange details nor aesthetic flaws. It is a simple case, with an elegant look that could fit in any kind of environment. Despite the classy and elegant design, the Deep Silence 5 features a very good aircooling setup and is also able to accomodate high-end liquid cooling systems. If you are a fan of water cooling setup perhaps with custom loop this model could be good for you since it is able to accommodate dual fan radiators in various setup. Thanks to the modular cage solution you can also install fat radiators or with fans in push-pull. The only small flaw is regarding the PSU area since the space available isn't that much and if you are building an extreme high-end rig this aspect could be a problem. We know that you can remove the last HDD cage in order to get more space, but if you are building a system, which features lots of hard drives you want to use that cage too.   - Design
- 2 pre-installed fans - Dust filters - Aircooling / Watercooling
- PSU area could be improved

Recommendation   + -
The Deep Silence 5 from Nanoxia is a case we can definitely recommend. If you're looking for a big-tower PC case with pre-installed acoustic insulation material as well as silent fans and a fan controller, this is a great choice. With this case it is really easy to build a silent rig. The Nanoxia Deep Silence 5 is available on PC-Cooling for 124.90 Euro excluding shipping costs and it's available also in White and Antracite color options.
