Meanwhile we're testing different resolutions and there are FullHD, 1440p as well as UHD on our list. This way you get a more detailed understanding of the differences. Today we compare the Core i7-5820K to the Core i7-4770K at stock clocks as well as overclocked to 4.5GHz and we're curious see how big the differences are.

Conclusion
FullHD
Having a closer look at the results measured with FullHD
resolution we see, that the performance differences are rather small. Comparing the Core
i7-4770K with stock clocks to the Core i7-5820K also running stock clocks we find a
difference of 12.08 percent on average. A closer look at the values gathered
reveals that GRID Autosport shows the largest difference at this resolution. In
this case we're talking about a 15 percent gap between the Core i7-5820K and
the i7-4770K. Overclocking the processors to 4.5 GHz we see a bigger difference between the two models, in this case we find gap in games like Sniper Elite 3 and Tomb Raider.
1440p
With the resolution set to 1440p we basically see the same tendencies like with FullHD although scaling with the
Core i7-5820K is a little bit better. The average performance
difference between a Core i7-4770K and a Core i7-5820K at stock clocks is 11.62 percent. Browsing through all
the individual results we again find a spike with GRID Autosport, where the
difference is 24.16 percent towards the i7-5820K.
UHD
Also in UHD things are
more interesting. Having a look at the average values, we see that the Core i7-5820K
at stock clocks is 12.99 percent quicker than the Core i7-4770K with standard
settings.
The overall results is a bit impressive again, but nevertheless there is an interesting spike
again this time. It's again GRID Autosport and Tomb Raider which benefits the
most from the Core i7-5820K with a 20 percent difference
to the Core i7-4770K at stock clocks.
Power consumption
This is where we really seeing big differences.
In idle the system with Core i7-5820K needs 1.49 percent more power and under
load the difference is 33.08 percent compared to the i7-4770K. Overclocking the Core i7-4770K to 4.5 GHz
makes the system pull 17.91 percent more power from the wall in idle and 9.77 percent
more when under full load. In the case of the Core i7-5820K system power
consumption goes up by 58 percent in case of idle and 46 percent regarding load.
Recommendation
Overall this round of CPU gaming performance was rather interesting. The average performance difference between these CPUs is 12.23 percent, where as the Core i7-5820K is the quicker one. Comparing prices we see that the Core i7-5820K costs about 13 percent more than an i7-4770K. Only compring CPUs this looks like prices are scaling equally with performance. But if you actually go and buy an i7-5820K you will also have to choose a X99 motherboards as well as DDR4 memory, which are more expensive than Z97 and DDR3 memory. Basically it can be said, that X99 is the more future proof platform at this time, but you also have to pay for that.
