Closer look

First of all we're going to explain what this product is all about. An "all-in-one" is a desktop system, where all the components and the dispaly are inside the same case. These systems usually offer good looking design and they don't take more space than a display on a dekstop. The MSI Gaming 27-6QE, like the name suggests, is based on a 27" LED anti-glare panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The stand is very solid however there is no adjustment and there also isn't a VESA mount.
Size and dimensions are not far from a normal 27" monitor, in fact the Gaming 27-6QE measures 672 x 482 x 66 mmbut with 16 kg it weighs considerably more than a display. The connectors are on the left and on the back side. On the left there are two USB3.0 (one USB 3.1 Type-C) ports as well as a Smartcard reader. Apart from that there are four USB (two 3.0), 3x HDMI, 1x RJ45 and analog audio panel on the left side. The Gaming 27-6QE like every Gaming device from MSI features a Killer Gaming LAN solution.
The components inside this AIO are rahter powerful. There is an Intel quad-core i7-6700 paired with 16GB of DDR4 memory as well as a Nvidia GTX980M 8GB. Regarding the storage there is a raid0 128GB M.2 SSD and a 2TB HDD.

Office PC

Primarily this machine has been designed to be used in office environments and that is why we decided to start our test suite with applications for daily use, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe. We used the Gaming 27-6QE to write this review and modified all our pictures taken during this week with pre-configured actions. With Photoshop and Dreamweaver, the Intel Core i7-6700 CPU was able to satisfy our need by very quickly processing batch operations.

In addition MSI provides an extensive software suite, which includes for example like Nahimic and MSI Gaming Center. With the first one you can set and adjust your audio, playing with different sliders in order to get the perfect setting. MSI Gaming Center shows the main features of your system allowing a check of your components.

Gaming PC

As we already mentioned on page 4, the MSI Gaming 27-6QE uses a quad-core i7-6700 with base frequency of 3.40 GHz and a turbo clock of 4.00 GHz. The CPU is paired with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a GTX 980M 8GB GPU. The GTX 980M is a high-end video card and available on the market since October 2014. Based on the Maxwell architecture the GM204 chip offers performance similar to a GTX 780. Thanks to these components many recent titles can be played smoothly with the maximum resolution (1920x1080) at high details. However, very demanding games such as Crysis 3 or Project Cars will require you to lower the resolutions and/or details if you want keep frame rates above 60fps.
To complete the test suite we also ran 3DMark FireStrike, in normal and extreme mode. The graphics scores were 8'652 and 4'483 point, which is, as we already pointed out, on the same level as the GTX 780. Overall we believe that this mobile GPU is perfect for this model with fullHD resolution since you will be able to play at maximum details in almost all games.
We measured the temperatures while playing games and running benchmarks, in both scenario the temperature on the mobile GPU was lower than 80°C. Since the product is quite compact and slim it's predictable that the noise is not on the same good level as the temperatures. In fact the fan profiles are quite aggressive and the system can become very noisy.

SSD

Inside the Gaming 27-6QE we fiund two 128GB M.2 SSDs in RAID0 and the perforamnce is really good. This allows for a very smooth user experience and almost any application launches instantly.
In addition we find a 2TB HDD to save your files and install all your games and applications.

Conclusion

Overall we can say that the MSI Gaming 27-6QE is a good all-in-one system, which is even capable of serious gaming. Apart from that it's alswo a very fast office machine. The looks are always a very subjective topic, but we believe that the red frame, which is a characteristic feature of the MSI Gaming lineup, is a bit too flashy for a work environment. We liked the high build quality very much and the fact that high quality materials have been used, really leaves a good impression.

The performance of this system is where we expected it to be and especially the Intel i7-6700 CPU gets the job done quickly. Apart from that, there is 16GB of DDR4 memory, which will even be enough in two years from now. The graphics card available on this model is a GTX 980M which provides performance similar and sometimes even higher than a GTX 780. We tested the Gaming 27-6QE with different games, applications and benchmarks and the results are sufficient for 1080p gaming. The storage has been a pleasant surprise, since there is a RAID0 with two 128GB SSD. The combination is actually very fast. Apart from that there is a 2TB HDD.
Since the system is quite compact (it's just a little bit bigger than a normal 27" display) we were surprised to find temperatures similar and comparable to gaming notebooks. Applying heavy workload we measured 80°C on the CPU and on the GPU, which is in-line for such a system. In order to maintain these temperatures all the fans start spinning fast very soon creating a lot of noise. While in idle the AIO is silent we can't say the same under full load, even with small loads on the CPU the system is noise rather quickly.

The MSI Gaming 27-6QE isn't flawless and we would like to see more ports, especially the ones which are used on a daily basis on the left and right side. Overall on this model you will find two USB 2.0, three USB 3.0 and one USB 3.1 Type-C.

The MSI Gaming 27-6QE is available on AK Informatica for 2599 Euro. In our opinion the price is accurate. We initially tried to compare this system with a gaming laptop with similar features and performance, but we believe that the comparison is not good since there is a big difference regarding display size. In our opinion, this system competes with the Apple iMac solutions, which are substantially more expensive but with higher resolution. We know that the price is quite steep, but in the end you're paying for the sleek ans slim design of a powerful AiO. The MSI Gaming 27-6QE receives 4 stars out of 5.
