Corsair Crystal Series 570X RGB Review
Category : Cases
Published by Marc Büchel on 23.11.16
The Crystal Series is an entirely new series of cases from Corsair and so far the 570X is the flagship. Next to side panels, front and top which have been made from tempered glass, there is integrated RGB lighting, that's been realized using Corsair's RGB fans and a separate controller. At a first glance there also is a clean interior and apparently we're rather curious to find out whether this case is capable of convincing us or not.

Features

PSU Cover

In order to hide all the cables connected to your power supply, there is cover hiding away the unit. This helps creating a neat and clean looking system.

Dust filters

There are washable dust filters covering all larger openings of the Crystal Series 570X RGB. Thanks to a magnetic quick release system they can be removed quickly.

LED Controller

Corsair equipped their Crystal Series 570X RGB case with a control unit that allows you to change the color of the fans. Next to different modes you can also choose from a set of different colors. A closer look at the control unit show, there is a total of six connectors for fans. Included in the delivery there are three LED fans, which have already been connected.

Watercooling ready

The Crystal Series 570X RGB is also ready for watercooling gear. If you wish to install a custom loop, there is the possibility to equip this case with up to three radiators. One of them can measure 360mm, another 280/240mm in lenght and the third one, at the back, could measure 120mm.

Product overview

Overview

Apparently one of the main features of Corsair's new Crystal Series cases are the tempered glass panels coving the front, the top and both sides. Compared to other cases around, which also feature tempered glass, most of them feature a top panel that's made from aluminum or steel. Basically the glass panels have been wrapped around a standard steel body. Another key feature of this case is the illumination. Included in the delivery there are three RGB fans, which have been connected to a control unit. It allows you to change colors as wells a lighting modes to match individual taste.

When it comes to build quality there is nothing to complain, which is what we expect from Corsair. Looking at the top of the case we find the I/O connectors as well as a power button. Strangely there is not reset button, which means that if you have to reset your system you'll need to keep the button pushed down for five seconds in order to turn your rig off. In total there are two USB 3.0 ports, two mini jacks (mic and headphone), the power button and three buttons to control the lighting. A quick look at the back reveals nothing out of the ordinary. There is a total of seven slot bezels, space for a standard ATX power supply and the back can be equipped with either a 120mm or a 140mm fan.

Installation

Overview

Corsair Crystal Series 570X RGB it's a midi tower case, which is compatible ATX motherboards. The motherboard is placed vertically and although the case is rather compact you will not run into any issues installing large heat sinks or high-end graphics cars. The motherboard tray is made of solid steel and it features a big cut out behind the socket, which allows the user to install aftermarket CPU coolers even when the motherboard has already been installed. There is a total of three rubber grommeted cut-outs, which allows for neat cable management. There is also enough space between the motherboard tray and the right side panel to hide plenty of cables. Furthermore we really liked one little detail, that makes perfect sense in combination with right side panels, that are made from tempered glass. We're talking about the removable cover allowing you to hide the cables coming from the the other side of the motherboard tray. We'd actually love to find even more cover in on the backside of the motherobard tray to achieve an even cleaner looking end result.

When looking for places to install drives, we find two spots for 3.5'' and 2.5'' drives. All those for spots are located on the backside of the motherboard tray and they are therefore very easily accessible.

For testing purposes we used an ASUS Z170A in combination with a big SilentiumPC-Fortis3-MCE aircooler and we did not run into any mounting or compatiblity issues. Building a PC based on this case is very easy and quickly done if you use a CPU tower cooler or an AIO liquid cooler. Nevertheless if you want to enjoy all the benefits of this case we recommend using a custom water cooling setup. It's just great that putting a big 360mm radiator is simple thanks to the fact, that there is plenty of space to do so.

Ventilation options

Overview

The Crystal Series 570X RGB offers plenty of spots for fans and included in the delivery you will find three 120mm fans with transparent blades and black frame. Overall, the case is able to accommodate three 120mm or two 140mm in the front, two 120/140mm in the top and one 120/140mm fan in the back. As you could have guessed, this means there is enough space for a 360/280/240mm liquid cooling radiator in the front and a 280/240mm one in the top.

Temperatures

Overview

For testing purposes we're using an MSI Z170I Gaming Pro AC motherboard, an Intel Core i5-6600K CPU, which receives cooling through a SilentiumPC Fortis 3 HE1425 MCE cooler as well as a MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G graphics card. To put the CPU under full load, we're running prime95 for 10 min and in the case of the GPU we use Furmark also for 10 minutes. After these ten minutes, we're going to write down the temperatures. The ambient temperature is close to 24°C.

Conclusion

Finally Corsair succeeded in creating a new and fresh looking case, which is capable of convincing us. We really like the overall looks and especially the clean interior and exception al cable management. Nevertheless, the design of the dust filters is not everybodies favorite and it will polarize. We would have loved to find the same honey comb structure that has been incorporated into the PSU cover as well as the back of the case. Repeating shapes usually make for more homogenous looks. Still Corsair's new Crystal Series cases are capable of clearly differentiating itself from the competition, which is always something a vendor wants to achieve with it's products. Although the design language is still a little bit noisy it is certainly a move into the right direction.

Looking at the ventilation concept Corsair did a good job with the 570X. Included in the delivery there are three 120mm RGB fans, while all of them have been place in the front. If we could wish for something then we would love to find a fourth fan in the delivery, mounted at the back, enable optimal airflow. Apart from that, since this is definitely not a cheap case, would have also like it if the steel frame was made from thicker material, but at the end of the day we have to say we're complaining on a very high level.

Certainly the best feature about this case is the RGB lighting. The integrated fan controller as well as the RGB LED fans, look great and it's very easy to change colors and modes. In total six fans can be controlled, while, as we already mentioned several times, three have been included included in the delivery. At this point we would like it there were different versions of the case available where the number of fans is different. Apparently Corsair did not add more fans, since they wanted to hit a price point below 200 Euro. One thing we really don't understand is why the lighting of the PSU cover is only white and not RGB capable. If you're not going to light your case white, we'd recommend you to simply not connect this part.

The Corsair Crystal Series 570X RGB with tempered glass is available with a street price of 199,99 euro excluding shipping costs. In our opinion this case is definitely not a bargain, but it's also not too expensive. We award the Corsair Crystal Series 570X RGB with 4 out of 5 stars.
