Conclusion
Red Team won! that's it.
Btw, Isn't she sexy?*
Performance: Let's take a look at the gaming performance
throwing away synthetic benchmarks. Using the latest available drivers on both
sides, the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition has proven to be the fastest card on average.
Sometimes faster than the GTX 680 and sometimes slower. Seriously, isn't she sexy?
Back to topic we can see that the HD 7970 GHz Edition is faster than the GTX 680
by 30 % under Alien vs Predator, 21 % under Batman, 11 % under StarCraft II, 7 %
under both Call of Duty and Skyrim and finally 2 % under DIRT 2.
While the GTX 680 was about 10 % faster than the HD 7970 GHz Edition under
S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Crysis 2, BattleField 3 and 3 % under Dragon Age II.
The gaming performance award goes to the HD 7970 GHz Edition.
Power Consumption: Here is where the red team doesn't do well
and where the green team is king. Well you know when it comes to power
consumption, green goes for power saving and eco stuff while red means
overconsumption? Here it is pretty much what we see. I know people don't like
reviewers measuring the power consumption using FurMark, well I tell you: I
don't care! So under FurMark we measured the power consumption of
273 Watts for the HD 7970 GHz Edition and 232 Watts for the GTX 680.
Almost a gap of 40 Watts between these two cards, this isn't nothing while in idle
both cards had the same power consumption.
The Performance/Watts Award goes to the GTX 680.
Price: Using geizhals.at as price comparison tool we can see
that the offer for a reference design AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition starts at 414
Euros for a card from Gigabte. In comparison the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 starts at 460 Euros. In
other words:
The Performance/Price Award goes to the HD 7970 GHz Edition.
This ends with two points for the HD 7970 GHz Edition wheras the GTX 680 only gets one point. So, what do you think?
