Club3D Radeon HD 7790 '13Series + CrossFire Review
Category : AMD
Published by Christian Ney on 10.04.13
Club3D, VTX3D and PowerColor (TUL Corp. in fact) are the only brands who released a Radeon HD 7790 following AMD's reference design. Therefore we wanted to have a look at one of those cards and see if they made a good choice releasing the reference design while no other manufacturer did. Our sample comes from Club3D and features a little factory overclocking on the core (+30 MHz). It is also the cheapest Radeon HD 7790 on the market. For good?
You might be expecting this, with the Club3D Radeon HD 7790 '13Series you get a reference card
with
a reference PCB, a reference cooler and a shy overclock on the GPU. The ASIC quality
measured on our sample was 67.6 % which is low compared with other cards we had
in hand that were around 73 %.
About ASIC quality:
Looking at the clock speeds we see that the GPU runs at 1'030 MHz.
That's not much of a factory overclock over AMD's 1 GHz recommanded clock,
if you take a look at other cards on the market you see that most have the GPU
clocked at 1'075 MHz. But it's better than nothing especially from the
cheapest card on the market. Like most of the other Radeon HD 7790 out there no factory overclocking has been
made regarding the GDDR5 memory which stays clocked at 1'500 MHz (6'000 MHz
effective) following AMD's recommendations.

As said previously, this card from Club3D makes use of the
reference PCB. Therefore you get
an analogue power design with five phases, where the GPU gets four phases and the memory gets one phase.
The voltage regulation chip used for both GPU and memory is a NCP81022 from ON
Semiconductor.
On the picture below you can see that the MOSFETs are cooled via a little
aluminium heatsink. This one is not present on all cards from competitors.
It may looks strange but yes this is the so called reference cooler.
It's been a while, that we've last seen a Zalman-like cooler on a graphics card. This
one is being manufactured by NTK Technologies and features a copper base with
aluminium fins and two 8mm heatpipes. The DC Brushless fan measures 65mm,
is made by FirstDO and carry the part number FD7015H12S.
The memory chips used are made by Hynix and carry the model number
H5GQ2H24AFR-R0C. They are specified to run at 1'500 MHz (6'000 MHz effective).
Bundled with the graphics card there is nothing but a quick installation
guide. That said, keep in mind that it's the cheapest card on the market so we
didn't expect the bundle to be rich. To get the latest drivers you will have to
go to the product page on the manufacturer's website or directly via AMD's
official website.
The card ships well bolstered with a bubble wrap (me gusta).
Idle, temperature is
taken after 15 minutes @ 30 %, 50 % and 100 % fan speed.
Room Temperature: 25°C
Temperature under Furmark
For FurMark, temperature is taken
after 15 minutes of GPU Burn test @ 30 %, 50 % and 100 % fan speed.
We stopped the test when the GPU temperature hit 90°C.
Room Temperature: 25°C
Temperature and fan speed under BattleField 3
For BattleField 3, temperature and fan speed values
taken, are the
highest achieved
after 1 hour gaming @ auto fan speed speed.
The "Performance Index" value is calculated as the sum of all
benchmarks results divided by the amount of games (3DMark and Ungine not
included into the calculation).

This Radeon HD 7790 '13Series from Club3D has
definitely been able to convince us. Of course it's not the fastest HD 7790
on the market but I think it's one of the most interesting. First of
all it's noiseless in idle and also while gaming. We were really
surprised to see this tiny cooler hold well against FurMark with the fan
at 30 % and stay quiet dead when gaming BattleField 3. Second it's the
cheapest HD 7790 around and one is going to choose an HD 7790 because of a limited budget
so this makes sense. Last but not least with AMD's Never Settle Reloaded
you get BioShock Infinite for free with the purchase of this card.

Performance of this product in particular has
nothing special, the additional 30 MHz on the core gives only 1.5 %
additional performance on average. But the HD 7790 in general benefits
of the best Performance/Watt ratio and a good Performance/Price ratio.
You won't be able to play games with highest graphics settings with this card
mostly due to the 1'024 MB of memory but the card is powerful enough to
play even recent demanding games at 1680 x 1050 with high settings and
2xMSAA smoothly.
The power consumption in idle is really good. Our entire setup wasn't
drawing more than 51 Watts, which is remarkable. Under load we measured
only 105 Watts which is
very good considering the performance you get.

If you are looking for an AMD Radeon HD 7790 then
you should really consider this offer from Club3D as Most Wanted #1. The
HD 7790 '13Series has everything you are looking for: Noiseless cooler
and best price.
- Mid-Range Gaming
We gave the Radeon HD 7790 '13Series from
