Features

Dust filters

There are washable dust filters covering all fan slots of the 509. Thanks to a quick release system they are very easy and convenient to remove.

Multifunctional bracket design

The front of this case has been equipped with three multifunctional brackets allowing accommodation of 2.5" storage drives or a 120mm fans. The brackets are very easy and convenient to use and they allow for quick assembly.

Watercooling ready

The In Win 509 offers a lot of interior space, which for instance allows for monting E-ATX motherboards and SLI or Crossfire setups. The front can be equipped with a 360mm as well as a 280mm radiator, while the rear and lower parts are compatible with two additional 120/140mm radiators. If you'd really want to go crazy with the 509 and equip it with this many radiators you'll have to make compromises, by removing the hard drive cage in the bottom.

Dynamic Visual Effects

As with other cases from In Win lately this particular model also offers special lighting for the front part of the case. There is the company logo with a RGB backlight, which has been hidden behind the large tempered glass panel. The RGB system uses a 4-pin connector which is fully compatible with RGB headers that can be found on the latest motherboards.

Product overview

Overview

The In Win 509 is a rather generously sized, full-tower case with clean and elegant design. In Win equips this case with side panels made from solid, tempered glass. The rear area is classic and provides a slot for single 120/140 mm fan, eight expansion slots and the openings for the power supply. On the front there is only one 5.25" slot at the top and actually very close to the I/O connectors. Talking about the I/O panel, it has been equipped with four USB 3.0 ports and the classic audio connectors. The In Win 509 is a well-designed and good looking case, while it's been equipped with almost all the latest bells and whistles. There are for instance dust filters at the bottom, a tool less retention system and full support for custom water cooling solutions. Apart from that this case is available in two colors: black/silver and black/red, which means it's for example perfect for ASUS ROG themed build.

Installation

Overview

The internal layout of the In Win 509 is uncommon, not to say unique. Unlike all other tower cases we've reviewed until today, the In Win 509 offers a two-chamber-like approach in the front for cooling. Checking the case from the front up to the rear part we find an internal structure that is completely different from the models we're used to. In Win decided to separate the cooling components from the hardware. Therefore, in the front we find two brackets, that can be equipped with up to three 120 mm and/or two 140 mm fans, while in between the storage units are placed. If you wish to you can equip the 509 with up to five 3.5" HDDs (two of which are placed in the top) and on top of that there is space for three additional 2.5" SSDs. The interior of this case is highly customizable and in case you're planning on using this case for a custom watercooling build, we'd recommend you to remove the HDD cage in the bottom of the case.

The motherboard tray, that features a big cut for the CPU backplate, offers space for E-ATX motherboards. Regarding cable management we find rubber grommets all around the motherboard. Thanks to the immense space available, you can install CPU coolers measuring up to 188mm in size and graphics cards can be up to 370 mm long. For our test we used an ASRock Fatal1ty X99M Killer motherboard with Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler and a MSI GTX 970 Gaming. As you can see from the pictures the space available is also quite suitable for larger builds.

Ventilation options

Overview

From the point of view of cooling, the In Win 509 it is absolutely impressive. First of all we have to say that inside the case there are no pre-installed fans of any diameter, therefore you'll have to choose what type of fan you want to use yourself. The bottom and the back offer space for a single 120 or 140 mm fan each. Regarding the front part of the chassis we have to spend a few more words checking out also the rig created by our friend Stuart Tonks from GGF Lan Party. As you can see from the picture below, there is space for a 360 and a 280 mm radiator using the special bracktes from In Win. In other words, the entire front area of the case is built for custom watercooling solutions, in this area there is also enough space to install a large 250 mm reservoir.

Temperatures

Overview

For testing purposes we're using an MSI Z170I Gaming Pro AC motherboard, an Intel Core i5-6600K CPU, which receives cooling through a SilentiumPC Fortis 3 HE1425 MCE cooler as well as a MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G graphics card. To put the CPU under full load, we're running prime95 for 10 min and in the case of the GPU we use Furmark also for 10 minutes. After these ten minutes, we're going to write down the temperatures. The ambient temperature is close to 24°C.

Conclusion

The In Win 509 is a full-tower designed for those who wish to have a stylish case built from premium materials. Despite initial concerns about the internal layout, we have to admit that the arrangement of the 509 is absolutely brilliant. Despite the missing cooling area on the top of the case, we believe this is not a issue at all since for that purpose the 509 offers a lot of space in the front. In addition we really like the two different places for HDDs and SSDs; usually when you want install big watercooling gear you have to remove all HDD cages. With this model In Win managed to save some space in the top of the case for a couple of HDDs. This way, even with an extreme watercooling setup you will be able to use a couple of HDDs without any issues. Since the In Win 509 is compatible with E-ATX motherboards, it's safe to say that power-users will choose M.2 or PCI-e SSDs in order to save extra space and get more perfomance.

Thanks to the huge size of the chassis, it's reasonable to assume that there is enough space for all kinds of components. The cable management is not perfect to us. We would like the case to be a few millimeters wider so there is more space on the backside of the motherboard tray. In addition we didn't like wiring the CPU EPS cable since there simply isn't enough space. Regarding the design, the black metal panels paired with the tempered glass panels ensure great looks. Apart from that there is RGB lighting built into the front.

Despite the fact that the In Win 509 is a premium case made of high quality materials such as tempered glass, the price is still quite reasonable. Apart from the great looking design there is good airflow as well as an interesting number of features. The In Win 509 is available for 179 Euros and receives 4 stars out of 5.
