Conclusion

General + -
With the GeForce GTX 980 Matrix Platinum, ASUS has created a high-end NVIDIA based graphics cards, which comes with a really long feature list. There is for instance memory defrost for overclockers, which is being triggered by flipping the LN2 Mode switch. Apart from that you get a VGA BIOS clear button and VGA hotwire.
This card is a really good combination and it will please high-end gamers as well as overclockers, although overclockers will have to modify quite a few things in order to break records. Memory defrost is actually quite a tricky and unique thing, since ASUS decided to place heating elements in close proximity to the memory chips, which makes sure, there won't be cold bug issues related to the memory. Overall this is a strikingly good looking card with excellent build quality. Especially the DirectCU II cooler, which recieved a black paint job is simply gorgeous.

Cooling / Noise Level   + -
The latest version of ASUS' DirectCU II cooler is definitely highly capable, although not the single most sophisticated when compared to the competition. Nevertheless the results gathered show this cooler allows for more than just a decent factory overclocking on the GTX 980 chip. When it comes to noise levels the card is subjectively speaking very silent in idle and under load it can still be described as silent.   - Cooling performance

- Not inaudible in idle

Performance   + -
Overall, the 3D performance is simply excellent, since this card features the highest factory overclock we've come across. Nevertheless performance could have been further improved by also overclocking the memory. In the end this is the fastest GTX 980 money can buy these days.
A closer look at power consumption reveals that the GeForce GTX 980 Matrix Platinum draws a bit more power in idle than the other GTX 980 cards we've had for review so far, but since we're talking about very few watts this does not have a negative impact on the overall rating.

Recommendation / Price   + -
If we look for the price of this monstrous card we're going to find one more impressive number. These days the card is listed for not less than 699 Euro on Geizhals. If we compare this with factory overclocked custom cards from other makers, then we find differences of up to 160 Euro. This card is definitely very expensive and this is actually the only thing that can be criticized. We really hope that within the first months after launch the price is going to drop by about 100 Euro. In comparison to the competition the card would still be expensive but the extra could be justified by the insanely high build quality.   - Enthusiast

We gave the GeForce GTX 980 Matrix Platinum from ASUS receives very good 4.5 out of 5 stars.
