Micron announces 8Gb DDR3 SDRAM

Brings 32GB RDIMM modules

Micron Technology has announced the introduction of a monolithic 8Gb DDR3 SDRAM component based on Micron's latest 25nm DRAM manufacturing process.

According to Micron Technology, the new 8Gb monolithic DRAM will enable cost-effective, high-capacity solutions optimized to support large-scale, data-intensive workloads and be mostly aimed at applications based on enterprise in-memory data analytics, search and social networking.

"The ability to scale with our customers' accelerating memory demand was a key driver in developing this 8 Gb DDR3 design," said Robert Feurle, vice president of compute and networking marketing at Micron. "We are committed to working together with our partners to minimize risk, maximize flexibility and optimize total cost of ownership."

Micron's DDR3 lineup will include 8Gb single-die and dual-die components as well as 2 GB RDIMMs (dual rank), 64 GB LRDIMMs, 32 GB ECC SODIMMs and 16 GB VLP ECC UDIMMs.
