Playstation outsells Xbox 3 to 1 in Q1 2014

Still in the lead

According to the latest financial report from Sony, Sony's Playstation consoles outsold Microsoft's Xbox consoles by three to one in the first quarter of 2014.

Unfortunately, Sony did not release any precise figures so some of those might still be Playstation 3 consoles, but it did note that it managed to sell a total of 3.5 million units during the first quarter. This is a massive boost, mostly attributed to Playstation 4, compared to the same quarter last year when Sony managed to sell around 1.1 million units.

Sony also revealed some cash figures, stating that it managed to generate around US $2.5 billion in sales from Sony's Games & Network Services division, which is mostly a result of the Playstation 4 launch.

Earlier this month, Microsoft's financial report for Q1 2014, stated that the company managed to sell a total of 1.1 million of combined Xbox One and Xbox 360 units, which suggest that Sony managed to outsell Microsoft by three to one in the last quarter.
