All AMD GCN GPUs will support DirectX 12

Future-proof GPUs

During the 30 Years of Graphics and Gaming Innovation event, AMD's production manager Devon Nekechuk, said that all AMD's GPUs based on Graphics CoreNext are future-proof and will have full support for DirectX 12.

There has been already some talk regarding Microsoft's upcoming DirectX 12 API which has taken a similar road as AMD's currently available Mantle API. AMD is not keen on advertising Microsoft's DirectX 12 due to Mantle API but did note that they are already up-to-date on DirectX feature-level support and have support for DirectX 11.2.

There is not much love between Microsoft and AMD over the Mantle API, especially now that Microsoft is taking a similar approach with DirectX 12.

In any case, AMD does not have much choice other than full support as Microsoft's DirectX API is still big and according to this, all AMD graphics cards since Radeon HD 7000 series will support the DirectX 12.
