EKWB unveils its new Geforce GTX 980 water block

Ready for the new GM204 Maxwell GPU

EK Water Blocks, based in Ljubljana Slovenia, have just announced its newest full-cover water block for Nvidia's reference designed Geforce GTX 980 graphics cards based on the new and quite overclocking friendly GM204 GPU.

Aimed to be used with Nvidia reference NVA-1G401 Geforce GTX 980 design, which was launched by most Nvidia AIB partners, the new EK-FC980 GTX water block features a full cover design which means it will not only take care of the GM204 GPU but also the memory as well as the VRM (voltage regulation module) part of the graphics card.

EKWB has slightly updated its water block design with the Geforce GTX 980 EK-FC980 GTX by including a central inlet split-flow cooling engine design, seen earlier on EKWB's newest flagship EK-Supremacy EVO CPU water block. Offering great hydraulic performance, which allows it to be used in cooling systems with weaker pumps, this type of heat exchanger also works well with reversed water flow, without compromising the cooling performance.

"This new cooling engine allows us to increase thermal performance of the cooler by as much as 3°C compared to our previous design", said Niko Tivadar, Project Manager at EK Water Blocks. "Achieved without sacrificing the slim, single-slot form factor design that has been our trademark throughout the years."

The base of the EK-FC980 GTX water block made of electrolytic copper in bare- or nickel-plated option, depending on the version, while the top is made of either acrylic- or POM Acetal material. The plexi versions of the new water block feature two pre-drilled slots for 3mm LED diodes while all versions include pre-installed Screw-in brass standoffs, which also allow the re-use of the original Nvidia backplate.

It is also possible to interconnect up to four of these water blocks by using EK-FC Terminal and EKWB has also readied two versions of aesthetic backplate available in plain black or Nickel versions.

All version of the EK-FC980 GTX water block are already available via EK Webshop or via its Partner Reseller Network and priced at €99,95 and €109,95, depending on the version. The two announced backplates will be priced at €29,95 for the black version and €37,95 for the Nickel version.
