Windows 10 Technical Preview now available for download

Get on board the Windows Insider Program

Microsoft has now opened up its new Windows Insider program which will grant you access to the Windows 10 Technical Preview. Although not quite well finished, or as Microsoft like to call it "fully baked", the Windows 10 Technical Preview will give you a decent look at the upcoming Windows 10 OS which should launch in mid-2015.

At its Windows Blog, Microsoft was quite keen to note that the Windows 10 Technical Preview is not a finished product and can be risky to install and mostly aimed for PC experts only. Microsoft also notes that the Windows 10 Technical Preview should work on the same hardware as the Windows 8.1 although some programs and drivers might need an update or two. Microsoft also noted that this special insider program will give you access to regular updates for Windows 10 so it is only going to get better.

Currently, the mouse and keyboard should work flawlessly but touch input might be a bit sketchy. According to early hands on, touch works but it needs a bit of tune up.

At its preview site, Microsoft has published an extensive details and instructions on how to install the Windows 10 Technical Preview so you might want to take a closer look before installing it. The Preview OS FAQ also notes that the Windows 10 Technical Preview expires on April 15th but should be replaced by the Consumer Preview at a later date.

Unfortunately, the precise date for the launch of the Windows 10 is still unknown as Microsoft only revealed mid-2015.
