Western Digital acquires Skyera company

Enterprise SSD company

Western Digital is definitely serious about the SSD market, at least the enterprise part of it, as it has now acquired yet another enterprise SSD company, Skyera.

While the specific details regarding the deal are not public, Western Digital describes this company as a "developer of solid-state storage systems for scale-out cloud and enterprise data centers." Western Digital also announced that Skyera will be integrated into HGST (which has been a part of Western Digital since 2011).

Western Digital previously invested in Skyera back in March 2013, when the company co-invested in this SSD company as a part of US $51 million financing plan. Skyera is also not the first SSD company acquired by Western Digital as it has earlier acquired both the sTec, in June 2013, as well as SiliconSystems, back in 2009.

Hopefully, we will see some new products from HGST soon which are a result of this acquisition.
