Qualcomm confirms there is no Snapdragon 815

Next-generation flagship is Snapdragon 820

There have been plenty of rumors regarding Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 815 SoC but according to the latest report it appears that such chipset does not exist and that the next-generation flagship SoC is the Snapdragon 820.

According to a statement given to Fudzilla.com, Qualcomm's Senior Director of Public Relations, Jon Carvill, noted that there is no Snapdragon 815 SoC and that there are no plans for such processor. The rumor started on the basis of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 alleged overheating issues, and it was rumored to be based on Cortex-A72 and Cortex-A53 cores and made on 16nm manufacturing process.

According to latest report, while Snapdragon 815 SoC will never happen and was never planned, Qualcomm already mentioned the new Snapdragon 820 SoC during Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona. While it will certainly be a while before we see the Snapdragon 820 SoC in actual devices, Qualcomm expects to have first samples in the second half of the year.

Qualcomm was also quite keen to note that the Snapdragon 810 is doing quite well and has no troubles with overheating, as it can be seen in the HTC One M9 flagship smartphone.
